Our team
Lock and Key are an independent estate agency based in Melksham. Our offices opened in 2007.

Lock and Key was created by Nigel Fitzgerald MNAEA and Faye Cottrell out of a desire to improve the home buying experience.

"We were both disappointed with the corporate attitude and wanted to offer a more friendly, helpful and personal approach. We decided to go back to basics and put a lot of thought into what we would personally want from an estate agent".

We know that all estate agents offer the same basic product. They sell houses.. The variables are essentially "how quickly?" and "what will it cost me?"

The public perception of estate agents is that, by and large, they do little to earn their commission. As such they are often seen as a "necessary evil" and rate poorly in popularity polls.

Typically we will only ever see you (our clients) on average once every seven years!. However we hope that you will see us as more than just an agency, and somewhere that you feel welcome and can pop in any time for advice or to see what innovations we are working on

Nigel Fitzgerald MNAEA
Nigel Fitzgerald is an Estate Agent through and through. After obtaining a Bsc in Business and Finance he took a job as a trainee negotiator in Cornwall to obtain sales experience but has not looked back since. He has worked for the best and well known national chains of banks and Estate Agents moving rapidly into management and local directorship. Over the years Nigel has received national awards for recognition and achievement and has gained vast experience, knowledge and of course the vital ingredient success both personally and the teams he has worked with.

Faye Cottrell
Faye Cottrell too has worked for large corporates and has dealt with finance, accounting and IT consultancy often travelling all over the world providing support and development. Faye has been involved with property development all her life as her father owns a construction company. They have built, renovated and designed various properties all over Wiltshire.

Julie Packer
Julie has worked with us for many years and she has a wealth of professional estate agency experience having been in the business for over ten years. Julie has lived locally all her life and will have detailed knowledge of your property. She will know your street and your neighbourhood and she will take the time to get to know you.

All staff are fully trained and will undertake professional qualifications. At Lock and Key, we work very hard at recruiting the most enthusiastic and energetic people we can find. But, vital though they are, energy and enthusiasm can only take you so far. When things get a little bumpy, as they sometimes do in our business, professionalism and problem-solving ability come into their own. Which is why we take training and staff development very seriously.

Buying and selling your home requires an investment of time... which is exactly the strength of Lock and Key. We won't simply rush in, measure up, stick it in the window and hope for the best. We will take the time and trouble to understand all relevant aspects of your situation and then we will work with you to achieve what you want.

We offer a service that is totally focused on the customer in hand with an undiluted approach to selling property. There are no extra services that we are selling, no hard sell like all the other agents who have additional vested interest in mortgages, their conveyancing, utility products and overseas property etc.

By focusing on our core traditional values, we can preserve our commitment to our customers and they will come first. It is as simple as that!

Fees

You should never judge an agent solely on their fees, it's a mistake many people live to regret and one that can cost them thousands more, than if they had chosen the right agent in the first place. The agent who usually overvalues your property and charges the cheapest fee is the one who cares little about the end result. In fact more often than not they try and get you to accept low offers and encourage it because they have to sell your property fast in order to balance the books and the low fee. This is not the way to protect your biggest investment, quite the opposite in fact. These people can't attract, train and retain the best staff and offer you the service you deserve.
