Thomas V Shaw & Co Ltd is truly a family business named after the original proprietor who established the business in the 1940's. Three generations have worked in the business to ensure its continuity and to give comfort to the clients in the knowledge that we are here always to assist. Mr Shaw himself began in Blackburn in 1947 on Whalley New Road. He was a decorated for gallantry gaining the British Empire Medal and mentioned in dispatches in the Second World War and came back to Blackburn having been born and lived originally at Ribchester. Mr Shaw ran the business until 1990 when he retired and the business transferred to his son in law David Briffett and his wife Mr Shaw's daughter, Lynn V Briffett.

The Managing Director is David Briffett Chartered Surveyor who has been undertaking surveys for over 20 years and is a graduate of the University of Wales and has lived all his life in Lancashire and knows the county very well. David is a School Governor, Parish Councillor and Chairman of a National charity for the Homeless. Lynn Briffett runs the Property Management Department for the company and offers Commercial Management experience of over 10 years and previously worked for a firm of Bailiffs. Mrs Hilary Slaven LLB has been a solicitor for over 30 years and specialises in dealing with all property related queries. We offer three levels of support in negotiating sales. 1. Confidential Sales. These are handled personally by David Briffett who will advise a prospective seller out of hours if required and will negotiate a sale without any press advertising or the distribution of details to the general public. The sale will be undertaken in a strictly confidential manner limiting the information given to only selected clients who have the financial resources to buy the property and an interest in acquiring same. We are happy to quote for undertaking this kind of sale, which though labour intensive offers least disruption to the business. 2. In addition we have our traditional method of selling in which one of sales staff will be happy to attend during normal working hours, inspect the property if that is applicable and the trading figures. We will require accounts and a lease if applicable and provide a marketing appraisal of the price that can be achieved at the time of valuation. We will arrange for the production of the sales particulars for the advertising and the promotion of the shop, we will contact our existing customers, who have registered on our mailing list a requirement to buy a specific commercial proposition. Everything will be done to ensure a smooth sale. We charge an initial registration fee which is significantly less than our competitors. Fees are quoted at the time of inspection. 3. Finally our new Economical method of selling involves Thomas Shaw in conjunction with the seller, advertising the business, through our business sales website which is being advertised and promoted in many regional newspapers. This will direct enquiries to the seller, who will be approached directly by buyers who have enquired, either in our office or on the website. We will be there to offer telephone support and advice. With the large number of hits, currently being registered in our website, it is probably that an enquiry for the business, may come directly to the seller. There is no final fee to be paid. We charge an initial and single upfront premium with no further payment for the advice, our inspection and the listing. If at any time the seller requires further support they can approach Thomas Shaw who will switch from the economical to the traditional method of selling with no further advance payment.
